CBAT is honored to announce the participation of the 'Samka Meets Neo Norte' project in the 2024 Bloomsbury Festival programme.
'Samka' is the Aymara concept of delirium: 'everything I can dream of and everything I can remember in a single moment in time.' The Samka project, led by Bolivian artists Andoro del Trueno and Andrés Vargas, aims to bring ancestral Andean rituals to urban cities, inviting migrant communities to connect with their surroundings through performances and workshops.
Neo Norte (New North) is an artistic research project that proposes the South as the New North. It has been led since 2017 by the Chilean artist and curator Tere Chad and showcased in 4 countries (Santiago, Chile; London, UK; Helsinki, Finland; and Sicily, Italy) with the participation of over 80 artists and 565.000 attendees. Since 2020, Tere Chad has been exploring collaboration opportunities with CBAT, and we are currently considering the presentation of a new proyect.
'Samka Meets Neo Norte' at Bloomsbury Festival will offer workshops, talks, and performances to celebrate journeys of migration and movement. The performances will take place at the hard standing of the Holy Cross Church (Cromer House, 98 Cromer St, London WC1H 8HJ) on the 18th and 19th of October 2024 and include a variety of poetic actions such as braiding a loom, writing, using traditional ancestral scents to make a wish, dance, playing an instrument, allowing everyone, no matter their age, gender or ethnicity, to feel they belong and can take part in the performances to celebrate movement. The programme of events embraces universal ancestral beliefs of the Global South and intends to connect humankind with our natural environment.
